Everyone is a Data Analyst
The other day I was talking to a friend of mine about using spreadsheets and he made the observation that people are afraid of Microsoft Excel. For most people, when they consider using a spreadsheet, they are fearful of breaking something. I suppose it's that reason that which keeps many people from not bothering to use this very powerful and practical tool.
Another reason people cite for not using spreadsheets is that they think they are for finance people. However, the truth is that everyone uses data each day to make important decisions, not just finance people. If you balance your checkbook, you are analyzing data. If you are considering buying a new car vs leasing, you are using data to make a decision. And lastly, if you are looking to buy a home, you are evaluating a lot of information at once, making you a bonafide data analyst at once...ok, maybe not, but hopefully you understand my point.
We are constantly using information in our daily lives to make decisions with. Because of this, we stand to benefit from a little knowledge of spreadsheets. It is for this reason that I am passionate about Microsoft Excel and how useful this tool is to my everyday life. Check out some of my videos on YouTube to see if any of them might be useful for you.
