DFS Basketball Considerations

If you play DFS Basketball on either DraftKings, FanDuel, or any other site, I want to share something with you that I learned over the last year of playing.

There are two very important numbers that are completely ignored in most DFS Basketball conversations, that I want to spend this blog post talking about. I will refer to these numbers as Average Fantasy Points and Situational Fantasy Points per game.

First off, when you are picking a player for either a GPP or 50/50, you'll notice that the above sites will list a player's Fantasy Points Per Game (FPPG) or Average Fantasy Points per game. Obviously, FPPG is an average. But one important distinction that FPPG ignores is what type of average we are talking about. I realized after playing DFS Basketball for the entire 2016-2017 season that some players play exceptionally better at Home or on the road (Away). So much so that when you begin to dissect a player's Fantasy point production game by game, you'll notice these trends yourself. Why is this relevant? Because when you are looking at a player's Average Fantasy Points on DK or FD, that number can be misleading because it doesn't contemplate whether that player stands to play better or worse, given his current game situation. This is true both of individual players as well as a Team Overall. Hence, this is why we created a metric called Situational Fantasy Points, to address this distinction.

Situational Fantasy Points looks at a player's home game performances and returns that average and does that same thing for a player's away game performances. This gives you a truer average of player performance based upon his situation (whether he is Home vs Away). Additionally, the same is true for an entire team's offense and defense. Some teams are defensive stalwarts at home but will struggle defensively on the road, and vice versa.

If you want to see samples of these types of player/team averages, take a look at NBALineups.com. They are currently offering free NBA DFS Analytic tools in an assortment of ways that are really helpful. And the best part is that they are free...for now. So take a look.
